If you plan to major in psychology and then enter a profession outside psychology. . .

An undergraduate major in psychology could be an excellent choice because you are planning to go into a profession that, like psychology, deals with human behavior and mental processes.

Pursue course work or a minor in which you can develop skills that will be useful in the profession you plan to pursue. Think especially about courses that will help you develop speaking and writing skills, research skills, and human relations skills.

See an advisor from the professional field that you intend enter. Ask the advisor to help you make sure that you are getting all the prerequisite courses needed for entry into your professional program. If you do not know who to see, contact your regular faculty advisor or make an appointment at the counseling or career center.
