If you plan
to go to work after earning an Associate's degree . . .
Many
jobs in social service agencies and institutions are now designated as
paraprofessional positions that are filled with individuals holding Associate's
degrees and Bachelor's degrees.
You
can prepare yourself to meet the minimum qualifications for such positions by
taking (in addition to your introductory psychology course) basic courses in:
developmental psychology and abnormal psychology
Take
psychology-related skills courses: interviewing, behavior modification, human
relations field experience, or practicum in your area of interest
Develop
good writing, speaking, and math skills. Use your college career center to
learn resume writing and interview skills.
Note
that your income level will probably not be as high as holders of associate
degrees in high-demand technical fields, such as nursing, electronics, and
computer systems.
